Two men jailed for violent robbery of woman and disabled son
The trio tried to escape in a getaway vehicle but were caught by Police.

Two men convicted for robbing a 57-year-old woman and her disabled son in Samabula in 2023, were jailed yesterday.
Jashneel Pillay was sentenced to eight years and five months imprisonment for aggravated robbery, while Mosese Vuniwai is facing six years, 10 months for aggravated robbery and serious assault.

Pillay and Vuniwai were sentenced by Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu at the High Court in Suva.
The court found that the two men, along with their accomplice Joseva Tuidama (who has already been sentenced), entered the victims’ home in the early morning of January 22, 2023, with the intent to harm and rob them.
One of the men covered the woman’s sister-in-law’s mouth while holding a cane knife on her neck to stop her from screaming for help.
He also held her down while the other two men ransacked the home.

Pillay will not be able to apply for pardon until seven years has been served while Vuniwai will only apply until five years have been served.
The pair have 30 days to appeal their sentence.
