Two ministers of the Methodist Church of Fiji have been officially terminated from their positions due to misconduct.

This was confirmed by General Secretary Reverend Jolami Lasawa during the church ministers and stewards meeting yesterday, ahead of the Methodist Church’s Annual Conference in Suva next week.

More than 500 ministers and stewards from across the country gathered at Centenary Church for the meet.

Rev Lasawa stressed that the church follows a structured disciplinary process, grounded in its constitution, when dealing with cases of misconduct.

“We have a process in the Methodist Church for dealing with ministers whose conduct or performance is in question,” he said.

“If ministers are found guilty of wrongdoing—whether due to poor performance or violations of church ethics—we take appropriate disciplinary action.”

He explained that matters are first addressed at the local level, and if necessary, elevated to divisional or church-wide committees.

“Some ministers have been found guilty and have lost their positions. Today, we dealt with several of them—some have been terminated, while others have retired or are facing temporary suspensions,” Rev Lasawa said.

He confirmed that certain ministers will be suspended for a defined period, ranging from months to years, depending on the severity of their actions.

“During this suspension period, we will closely monitor their conduct, behavior, and work. The church has the authority to terminate, suspend, or revoke a minister’s status depending on the circumstances,” he added.

The Methodist Church of Fiji is the country’s largest Christian denomination and has long played a central role in shaping Fiji’s religious and social landscape.

The annual conference opens on Sunday.
