Assistant Commissioner of Police for Crime, Mesake Waqa, yesterday confirmed two men were questioned concerning the large drug bust in Legalega, Nadi, on Sunday.

“There are two persons of interest, they are being questioned; investigation is underway,” ACP Waqa said.

He could not reveal more information as investigations continue.

Police said as part of the investigation, information was received that the three-tonne drug consignment was destined for Australia.

Divisional Police Commander West Vaikobo Vaisewa said no one was safe from the drug issue and the public must to be vigilant.

“There are many red zones in Nadi areas, it does not only happen in Nadi town where the pushers do their deals.

“It is happening on the roadside, housing areas, basically where there is a lot of movement.”

He said no one and no place was spared and it could be in any neighbourhood. DPC Vaisewa said the onus was on residents and community members to advise police of such illegal deals.

“Call Crime Stoppers or the nearest police station or police officers you know,” he urged.

Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua also told police there was a strong need to put an end to this drug issue.

“I am thankful for those that came to us with the information that led to the successful drug bust and we continue to call on the public to help the police on coming forward with information.

“The public needs to help the police in this fight.”
