UN Chief Guterres Wishes Fiji Well in Opening Borders
The bilateral meeting was requested by the UN Secretary-General’s Office.

United Nations Secretary- General António Guterres said it was good news that Fiji would re-open its borders on December 1, 2021.
He made the comment after the UN-Fiji bilateral meeting on the margins of the UNCOP26 yesterday.
On their way out of the bilateral meeting venue at the Scottish Exhibition Campus in Glasgow, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama informed Mr Guteres of Fiji’s international border reopening and invited the UN Secretary-General and his family to visit again soon.

“Opening the borders... excellent, excellent all the best,” Mr Guteres said.
The bilateral meeting was requested by the UN Secretary-General’s Office.
During the meeting Mr Bainimarama acknowledged the UN for its role in the global response to the COVID-19 crisis.
But in preparing for economic recovery Mr Bainimarama said any scope of stability would be lost without collective global action to address the underlying threat of climate crisis.
Mr Bainimarama told the Secretary-General that he was deeply concerned that the world was still headed to the wrong side of 1.5 degrees of warming.
But he reaffirmed Fiji’s support to the United Nations and requested the support of the UN in helping Fiji seize any new opportunities for engagements and innovative partnerships within the multilateral sphere.
