Upgrade e-Ticketing System Not Phase it Out: Bus Operators Say

The proposal to phase out the e-ticketing system to introduce a new fare system will not be easily accommodated.
Vodafone Fiji head of corporate sales, Salman Khan, said an upgrade of the system being used was needed because it had been in operation for the past five years.
“There is no backup to the system,” he said.

In past experiences, when such issues arose with the card readers and the bus operators were requested to address the issues with Vodafone’s support team on ground.
Mr Khan said as an industry what they must do is to decide when and how the system would be upgraded.
“If for some reason, the system goes offline, that will be a major national crisis,” he said.
“What we need to do is work with companies to basically replace all of that equipment.”
