The Government has made urgent works on the temporary bypass at Semo in Nadroga its highest priority.
Minister for Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services Ro Filipe Tuisawau visited the site over the weekend to assess progress and reaffirm the Government’s commitment to public safety.
The Semo road drop-out saw the Armco crossing give way last week.

“Our teams are doing their very best to complete the bypass within the next few days,” he said.
“However, safety remains our top priority. We will not compromise quality and safety standards for the sake of speed.”
He said recent delays were largely due to adverse weather affecting ground stability, but additional resources had now been mobilised to keep the project on track.

He also acknowledged the support and cooperation of the village of Semo during the disruption.
Ensuring communities have safe and reliable access remains central to the Government’s response following the closure of the main route.
“Every step of the bypass construction is being carefully managed to protect lives, maintain quality standards and restore connectivity as quickly and responsibly as possible,” he said.
The Fiji Roads Authority continues to maintain alternative access routes via Naidiri and Ciri roads, accessible to light vehicles only, and has scheduled additional maintenance works on the detour route to ensure continued access.
Motorists are advised to plan their travel accordingly and expect possible delays. Those travelling from Suva to Lautoka, Nadi, Ba, Tavua and Rakiraki are encouraged to consider using Kings Road as an alternative route.
Drivers are urged to exercise caution when passing through the area and to remain mindful of pedestrians and commuters transferring between vehicles near the slip site.
