Using social media as a tool to uplift another woman is a way to mould a better cyber community for all, Online Safety Commissioner Anne Dunn-Baleilevuka said.

She was chief guest at the R.C Manubhai Suva branch International Women’s Day celebration yesterday.

Ms Dunn-Baleilevuka said the day was to “commemorate the hard work of women who have gone before us to pave the way for us to work in fields such as hardware or technology or any field that is usually male dominated.

“This is significant because it gives us the opportunity to empower one another, break stereotypes and close boxes of what and how a woman should or should not act, behave or think. And it releases us to take action on various issues that affect women and girls everywhere,” Ms Dunn-Baleilevuka said.

She said this year’s focus was on gender equality and human rights for all women and girls and inclusiveness of digital literacy rights.

“I want to encourage us to be actively in pursuit of building a better online world for women and girls.”

R.C Manubhai Group of Companies Director Ashok Patel said he was proud and delighted to celebrate such a day.

“R.C. Manubhai is an equal opportunity employer and strongly believes in gender equality as such, women in our company are employed in every department and at different levels,” Mr Patel said.

“International Women’s Day gives us an opportunity to show our appreciation to all women for their hard work and sacrifice.”

R.C Manubhai Group of Companies and its subsidiaries around the country celebrated International Women’s Day in their respective branches yesterday.
