Six clan leaders of Yavusa Saqele in Vakabuli Village, Vitogo, Lautoka, have declared a united stand against illicit drugs.

Botelaki clan leader Viliame Naulivou said the initiative brought together village leadership, the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma, Apostle Gospel Outreach Fellowship, Christian Mission Fellowship, New Way Fellowship, the village women’s group and youth representatives.

“Vakabuli Village chooses life, order and hope,” Mr Naulivou said.

He said the gathering, held in the presence of the village headman, affirmed the community’s commitment to protect its people, families and future generations.

Mr Naulivou said the initiative had the full support of all six clan leaders and the tribal chief, Ratu Iliesa Raseru.

“We stand united as a vanua to say no to drugs, choosing discipline, faith and protection for our people and future generations,” he said.

He said the stand reflected a collective decision by the vanua, church, women and youth to uphold discipline, unity and responsibility, and to reject influences that threatened the wellbeing of the community.

The village recently marked a historic milestone with the installation of Naulivou as one of its clan heads on January 18.

It was the first time such an installation had been conducted in the village.

Mr Naulivou is also the first person from Vakabuli Village to attain a master’s degree in business administration.

Meanwhile, various vanua around the country have also pledged to take a stand against illicit drugs.
