The Fiji Roads Authority emphasises that such unlawful actions may lead to legal proceedings against those responsible.

Just months after completing initial works on the $62.944 million Queen Elizabeth Drive Road Project in Suva, the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has reported several issues of vandalism and theft.

In a recent inspection by FRA, the authority recorded that several street lights were damaged, and vital garden light cables were allegedly stolen.

FRA chairperson, Atunaisa Nayago said the alleged acts significantly affect public safety. Mr Nayago said these acts of vandal-ism and theft are not only illegal but also dangerous.

He said damaged street lights and missing cables compromise the safety of both road users and pedestrians, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries.

“The FRA emphasises that such unlawful actions may lead to legal proceedings against those responsible,” Mr Nayago said.

“The FRA urges all members of the public to exercise civic pride and respect for public property.”

Mr Nayago said damaging or stealing road infrastructure and assets is detrimental to community safety and undermines the efforts to maintain a secure and well-lit environment for everyone.

He said FRA appealed to the community to assist in safeguarding the latest infrastructure around the country.

“We must work together to ensure our roads remain safe and functional,” Mr Nayago said.

“Protecting public property is a shared responsibility that impacts the well-being of all.”
