Vasiti Lauwai Pledges To Advocate On Effects Of Climate Change

Nineteen-year-old Vasiti Lauwai, a contestant for the 2019 Fiji Airways Lautoka Farmers Carnival, aims to campaign about the importance of climate change mitigation.
Ms Lauwai who hails from Nasivikoso in Magodro, Ba.
She is sponsored by Hasmat Amusement.

The carnival is from June 8 to June 17 at Churchill Park.
Ms Lauwai who is the first in her family to contest in a carnival, hopes to make them proud.
The Year 13 student said the carnival would be a good platform to build her confidence on, to advocate on issues close to her heart.
In this case, the impacts of climate change to her family, community and the nation as a whole.
“I am the first in the family to take part in a contest like this. Our community is already facing the impacts of climate change,” she said.
“It is encouraging to see that our Government is working towards mitigating climate change and we have a role to support these initiatives.”
The 19-year-old hopes to encourage youths to take a stand and be responsible and accountable for what is happening to our environment.
Ms Lauwai who is a student at Maharishi Sanatan College in Nadi lists her hobbies as socialising and gardening.
She hopes to pursue her studies at the Fiji National University after completing Year 13 with the hope of becoming a school teacher.
