There is a need to increase the number of businesses owned by iTaukei in Fiji, says Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu.

During the opening of two empowerment business projects in Naduri, Macuata on Friday he said there was only five per cent of businesses owned and operated by native Fijians.

“There is a need for more support and encouragement to help increase this number,” Mr Vasu said.

“Also, there is a need to change in mindset as there has been some instance where people try to pull others down who are succeeding in life.”

He said there were other contributing factors as to why there were not many iTaukei business people in Fiji.

“We need to work together in unity, explore new opportunities and encourage Fijians to succeed in life,” he added.

He told the gathering during the Korovou Homestay and Crumbs Bakery Café launch about the number of projects aligned for the North.
