Vatulawa Transports Water to Ono- I-Lau andVatoa

The Government barge Vat­ulawa has left for Ono-i-lau and Vatoa with 100,000 litres of water.

“The Vatulawa left for the two is­lands on Friday,” the director Fiji National Disaster Management Of­fice (NDMO) Anare Leweniqila,” said.

He said some workers of the Wa­ter Authority of Fiji (WAF) also travelled on the barge with nine water tanks.

Three of the tanks were from the Ministry of Education for the schools in the two islands.

Mr Leweniqila said the island­ers had been advised to boil their drinking water by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

The WAF workers he said would help in the distribution of water to the islanders.

Meanwhile the director NDMO has called on the villagers in the af­fected village on the two islands to help boat crews in unloading their food ration.

He said some soldiers from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) were supposed to go and help in the unloading of food ra­tions but they would go later to con­struct the damaged houses.

RFMF Engineers’ Operations Of­ficer Major Sanaila Vitukalulu said as soon as they receive the report on the damaged houses they would prepare the material and leave for the islands.
