Vehicle Owner Questioned Over Fatal Accident

The man who gave his 16-year-old nephew permission to drive his vehicle which led to an alleged fatal accident on December 4 in Labasa was taken into Police custody yesterday.

This was confirmed by acting Divisional Police Commander North Superintendent of Police Eroni Soqosoqo.

The victim, Shalvin Lal of Tuatua, Labasa left his guardian’s house at midnight to pick up his uncle when the accident happened at Naduna after 1am.

“The nephew allegedly lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer off the road and hit a culvert, he allegedly died from the impact of the accident,” SP Soqosoqo said.

“The man (who gave the permission) was brought in for interview at Labasa Police Station and once investigation file is compiled, we will forward it to Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.”

He said the information about the deceased driving unlawfully without a driver’s licence was also part of the investigation.
