Vigil Held in a Suva Church to Honour Bombing Victims

It is a difficult time for Sri Lankan families and my heart cries for all the people who have been affected by the incident, says Courts Fiji marketing director Anil Senewiratne.

Mr Senewiratne is originally from Sri Lanka and expressed his sorrow at the crisis back home.

A prayer vigil in honour of the victims of the attacks in Sri Lanka was held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Cathedral in Suva, yesterday.

Mr Senewiratne said his mum is the only immediate family living in Sri Lanka and was not affected as she lives about 20 kilometres away from Colombo and Negombo where the incidents took place.

“She is safe and my friends and cousins are also safe, because the area we come from was not affected,” Mr Senewiratne said.

“It is heartbreaking when I hear from my friends of how things are back home.

“Up until now, there are some cars still parked outside the churches, nobody has claimed them, which means families had gone into the church and never came back.

He said in most households, the father generally stays at home and the kids and their mothers go to church but on Easter Sunday, they all go.

“There are houses that are still closed because families have not returned,” he said.

“My heart cries out for the people who are suffering because of this incident.”

Mr Senewiratne also thanked the Fijian people for their support during such a time of grief.

“I really want to thank all the Fijian people as well, for all the phone calls and messages and concerns I received when the incident happened,” he said.

“ I want to thank everybody for their condolence messages and prayers for Sri Lankan families.”
