Lami village headman (turaga-ni-koro) Sailosi Malimali yesterday explained why he had not been attending the Suva District meetings.
“I’ve been the turaga-ni-koro of Lami Village since 1998 and have not attended a Suva district meeting since then,” Mr Malimali said.
He said he had not been paid by the iTaukei Affairs Board (TAB) and he had not received anything until today.

“The reason I did not attend the meeting is because Lami Village had not been having its village meeting to be called by the chief of Lami.”
He said in such a meeting he would be required to take minutes and submit it to the iTaukei Affairs Board.
The village meeting would make suggestions on motions to be presented at the Suva district meeting and he would be responsible to take it up.
Mr Malimali said since they were not having any village meetings there was no reason why he should attend the district meetings.
At the Suva district meeting on Wednesday, delegates from Nabaka Village, Rewa, raised their concerns on the continued absence of the Lami Village headman at district meetings.
It was heard that the Lami Village headman had not been attending district meetings for more than 10 years.
The chairman, the Turaga Na Tui Suva Ratu Sanaila Mudunavosa asked delegates if they should be visiting the Lami turaga-ni-koro and hold a reconciliation talk with him to attend the district meetings and they agreed.
The Fiji Sun visited the Tui Lami Opetaia Sali, and he said he would talk to the village headman about the visit.
Lami Village is part of the Suva District, which has eight villages - Suvavou, Lami, Waiqanake, Muavuso, Togalevu, Nabaka, Wainawa and Naivikinikini.
Suva district is part of the Rewa province.
