Villagers of Waikete, Vunivaivai, Naila, and Naitalasese in Tailevu are grateful to the Ministry of Environment for its intervention regarding their concerns on the infestation of flies in their villages.

In April, families had raised health concerns with Goodman Fielder International (Fiji) Pte Ltd, which owns the poultry farm near the villages, and government stakeholders.

Resident, Iosefo Naduva said it had been more than six weeks and the infestation of flies in these areas had stopped.

He said since the ministry’s intervention, the company had cleaned its raw shed every two weeks instead of its normal practise of six weeks.
