Villagers of Namosi And Serua Provinces Now Can Access Clean, Safe Drinking Water For All

Water woes faced by villagers in the provinces of Serua and Namosi in Viti Levu will be a worry of the past.
This is after the Japanese Government provided USD113,456 (FJ$227,729) to the Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation for the improvement of the water supply system in villages of the provinces.

Namaqumaqua Village and Bavu Village were assisted through the Japanese Government’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects scheme (GGP).
While commissioning the water projects at Namaqumaqua Village on Wednesday, the Embassy of Japan’s Second Secretary, Tanaka Yoshiaki, said he was honoured to hand over a new Water Supply System to the Rotary Pacific Water for Life Foundation.
“The “Project for Improvement of Water Supply System in Veivatuloa Village, Namaqumaqua Village and Bavu Village will enhance the water quality, water supply and sanitation standards for all those who live there.
“People of these villages experienced a lack of adequate clean water supply and this led to some challenges.
“It is common knowledge that a clean and regular water supply together with proper sanitation is key to maintaining good health and hygiene as well as preventing diseases such as typhoid.”
“It gives me great joy to see that in recognition of the difficulties faced by the people of Namaqumaqua and Bavu villages, handing over the new system will ease such challenges and bring about a more healthy and hygienic lifestyle.”

Namaqumaqua villager, Setoki Turaga, expressed his gratitude to the Government of Japan for assisting the villages in accessing clean and safe drinking water for all those who live there.
“We are also grateful to the people of Japan for this initiative, it will greatly benefit villages and ensure everyone is protected from water-borne diseases from drinking water from an unsafe source,” he said.
