Nasau villagers in the district of Nadi in Bua were able to raise their concerns with the Ministry of Forests at their village hall yesterday.

Present at the talanoa session to answer the concerns raised by the villagers were the Minister for Forests Osea Naiqamu and his staff.

Nasau assistant headman, Mosese Raqoma said the villagers were really happy that the minister and his team were in the village.

“This is the first time villagers had the opportunity to ask questions that they wanted answers to,” Mr Raqoma said.

“We hope that talanoa sessions like these are scheduled two or three times a year. This talanoa session was successful because the villagers’ questions were answered.”

Peni Toagutu said he was finally in peace because his queries were answered.

“I was able to ask the minister and his team directly instead of writing a letter and waiting for the answer. The issues I raised were in regard to the road that leads to the forests and fencing of the area where the Yasi trees are planted,” Mr Toagutu said.

“I am glad that they were ready to answer my queries. It gives me some kind of relief that the minister left his office to come to the village and sit with us for the talanoa session.”

There were more than 50 villagers present at the talanoa session.
