Nasuva Village residents seek clarity from authorities on the rising number of typhoid cases in their community.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) reported an outbreak of Typhoid fever in Macuata and Bua, with six cases reported in Nasuva Village, Seaqaqa, over the past three weeks.
Also five cases have been reported in Waikonadawa Settlement in Nasolo, Bua, within the same period, with one case reported last week. Fortunately, there have been no hospitalizations or deaths.

During a visit to Nasuva Village, the Fiji Sun spoke with the village headman, Alikisadro Draunimasi.
He said the villagers had suspected that the water source may be responsible for the outbreak.
A medical team from the Seaqaqa Health Centre had visited the village a few weeks ago to collect drinking water samples.
“They (medical team) come here almost every day, they collect our typhoid test kit, and whenever we ask them about the water result, they kept on saying, ‘next week,’ Mr Draunimasi said.
“Besides this, one contributing factor to the spread of typhoid is the poor sanitation in some houses. I also plead with relevant authorities to help us in this area.”
The village nurse, Litiana Draunimasi, said some villagers have experienced stigmatisation due to the outbreak.
Divisional Medical Officer (DMO) Northern, Dr Tiko Saumalua, confirmed that health inspectors from the Seaqaqa Health Centre would present the water test results to the village headman, Mr Draunimasi.
