A Facebook post highlighting several potholes along Bua Road has raised concerns, particularly for drivers travelling at night.
The post shows plants placed inside potholes with a caption suggesting people should “make use of potholes”.

A video circulating online identifies the affected location as Bua Road.

It is unclear whether those responsible were attempting to draw attention to the deteriorating road conditions so that the potholes could be repaired.

The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has acknowledged the concerns raised by members of the public regarding the current road conditions in the area.

In a statement, FRA said it had deployed maintenance contractors to attend to the affected sites to ensure the area is safe and accessible.

However, FRA noted that it has been facing significant challenges in facilitating road maintenance works in the Northern Division due to continuous unfavourable weather conditions.

FRA said it is aware of the status of the road network and that the works form part of its ongoing programme.

“The continuous rain has significantly affected road conditions, and FRA contractors have also been stretched while facilitating emergency restoration works during this period,” the statement said.

FRA reiterated that it remains committed to maintaining the road network and will attend to the affected sections progressively as weather conditions improve.

The authority has also requested members of the public to refrain from placing vegetation or other items on such sites, stating that it poses a safety risk to commuters and other road users.
