Vuci Women Receive Fibreglass Boat, Engine

Fifty-four women of Vuci Settlement in Nausori are rejoicing after they received a fibreglass boat yesterday complete with an outboard engine.
This follows their request to the Ministry of Fisheries because they heavily relied on fishing for their livelihood.
Vuci Women’s Club member Lice Matairua commended the Government for the assistance that would reduce their financial burden.

During the boat handover, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said supporting communities with new sources of income as part of Government’s strategy to alleviate the challenges brought by COVID-19.
Mr Bainimarama also opened two new staff quarters at the Ministry of Fisheries’ Wainibokasi Service Centre that will house two senior staff.
The upgrade to the service centre will allow staff to better service coastal and riverine fisheries in Tailevu and Rewa.
About nine fisheries staff are based at the service centre which is also used as the government emergency base during natural disasters.
