Netava Vukivuki defied all odds to be scoop the best all-rounder award at the Fiji Corrections Service passing-out ceremony held at the Naboro Corrections headquarters yesterday.

Despite the challenges he faced during the 14-week training with 63 other recruits, Mr Vukivuki maintained a high standard of values and beliefs throughout the course.

Born and raised in Narata, Conua, Nadroga, the 33-year-old made it his goal to become the best version of himself during the training.

He said the journey wasn’t easy, especially not knowing what to expect when he first joined the recruitment programme.

“At times, it was really tough getting up early for training, but we had great mentors who guided us through the entire course,” he said.

“Throughout the 14 weeks, I kept reminding myself to focus, gather my strength, and stay determined so I could provide for myself and my family.”

Back home, Mr Vukivuki’s struggles were more difficult than most, being the eldest of three siblings. The pressure and expectations were on him to prove himself and provide for his family.

After receiving the best all-rounder award, he felt a huge sense of relief.

“Every household has its own challenges, but for me, it was different. My parents and siblings rely on me to support them financially,” he said.

“I knew finding a job would be difficult, but through prayer, I succeeded with this recruitment process.”

Mr Vukivuki plans to give his best within the corrections system, exchanging ideas and contributing to make the job easier and more effective.
