Water Woes Worsen

The water disruption at Nausori and Nasinu areas reached its third day yesterday.
More than 10,000 people have been affected.
Minister for Lands and Infrastructure Jone Usamate, who is a resident of Nakasi was not spared. He said he had been taking his baths from a bucket for the last two days.

Speaking after the parliament session yesterday, Mr Usamate said all efforts have been made to restore water supply by last night or sometimes this weekend.
Supplies from the Wainibuku junction was isolated which means that areas in Nasinu were also affected. Seven more trucks were added to the carting list taking the tally to 20 trucks.
He said because of the fault at Wainibuku reservoir, Nasinu and Flagstaff will experience low water levels and more areas could be affected.
Businesses affected
Businesses have also been affected in the areas especially Rattan’s Store at the Wainibuku junction and the bakery next door.
On Thursday evening, the Water Authority of Fiji dug the faulty valve which lies under the footpath in front of the shop and as a result, water entered the shop.
Shop owner, Keshmi Rattan said some goods were damaged and bakery next door was also filled with water.
“I am hoping that we are compensated because from Thursday evening, we have not been able to do any business,” Ms Rattan said.
Carting woes
Despite assurances on the number of trucks carrying water, residents in affected areas are still claiming that they have not received any water services.
Ramesh Kumar, 62, of Pinapiu Street in Nakasi, said they had been waiting for water truck since Thursday evening.
He claimed that trucks had only been delivering water at the main road.
Simione Uraia of Sasawira said it was fortunate that there was rain on Thursday night. This time around he was hoping that rain would continue.
