Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Premila Kumar said they have teachers to replace those who lost their jobs because they did not want to be vaccinated.

Ms Kumar was responding to media comments by Fijian Teachers Association saying that it should stop misleading the public.

She added parents should not worry because they have teachers who will take up the post of those teachers who had lost their job.

“I wanted to clarify what the general secretary for FTA said. Yes, we had a meeting, but I never said that there are 2018 teachers waiting,” Ms Kumar said.

“He was trying to mislead. What we are saying is that we already know the teachers who have been terminated and we have surplus teachers to fill those positions.

“We have already identified those teachers who will be going to these schools. It is no point in sending the teachers now to these schools because these schools have not opened.”

Ms Kumar said: “We have worked it out and discussions have taken place between the ministry and teachers who will be taken on board.

“Parents should not worry when the schools reopen, and teachers are not there to teach their children.”

122 teachers had chosen to forfeit their job and not to be vaccinated.
