The Greater Good Foundation is calling on the public help to keep the eight-year- old facility continue operating.

This is because the foundation has only three weeks left to cater for the needs of the more than 200 dogs and puppies until its funds run out.

Located in Tavarau Lautoka, the facility has been rescuing street dogs and providing daily meals, including vet treatments and sterilisation for the hundreds more who roam the streets.

Foundation spokesperson, Mohammed Shaheez Khan, said the foundation needed approximately $50,000 to keep it afloat for the rest of the year.

“We calculated that each day $1.40 is for a dog’s meal,” he said. “So with the 200 dogs and puppies we look after, $280 is the meal per day and this is roughly $2000 per week,” said Mr Khan.

He said at the moment the foundation was surviving on $8000 which would run out in three weeks.

Foundation’s manager, Maleeka Ghazala said: “We are asking the big food manufacturers to step forward.

“We go through around 40kg of rice and 40kg of dhal per day – that’s hundreds of kilos a month.

“We are hoping for some generous companies to donate supplies.”

The foundation recently made an application for Government grant to continue.
