Fijians are advised to take the necessary precautionary measures and adhere to all weather warnings as the country expects deterioration in weather from this afternoon.

Fiji Meteorological Services has issued a heavy rain warning this morning.

This is expected to hit the country starting from today until Thursday.

National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) Director Vasiti Soko confirmed that following the meeting of the Emergency Committee this morning, they have started to mobilize their teams on the ground. Present in this meeting was Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander Ro Jone Kalouniwai along with representatives from Fiji Police Force, Fiji Roads Authority, Energy Fiji Limited, Ministry of Infrastructure, Ministry of Defence and Fiji Council of Social Services Director Vani Catanasiga.

"As of today, following the Emergency Committee which convened here this morning at our headquarters, we not only discussed the response plan that we have for the flooding that happened over the weekend but also to discuss the heavy rain warning that will hit Fiji later from this afternoon," Ms Soko said.

"We have been advised by Fiji Meteorological Services that we're expecting the same environment we had over the weekend, it will happen also for the next two days for Fiji.

"The emergency committee sat this morning to discuss what we need do for those who were affected by the previous flooding and what we should do for the next two days."

As of this morning, one evacuation centre remain active in the Western Division. Fiji Meteorological Services and the four divisional commissioners joined online to brief the Committee members about the looming adverse weather and situational reports from the ground. Ms Soko is advising all Fijians to adhere to advisories and to avoid acrossing flooded areas.
