Weather: Low Pressure Expected To Affect The Country Till Saturday

An active trough of low pressure with associated rain and showers approaches the group from west. It is expected to affect the country till Saturday.

Meanwhile, a high pressure system together with a low pressure system to the south of Fiji generates and directs heavy southerly swells towards the southern and western parts of the country.

Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji group:

Periods of heavy rain and few thunderstorms over Yasawa and Mamanuca group, western half and interior of Viti Levu, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Rain becoming frequent and heavy from later tonight.

Occasional rain over the rest of Viti Levu, and southern Lau group. Showers increasing to rain from tonight with thunderstorms and heavy falls.

Occasional rain and few thunderstorms elsewhere. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas.

Expect sea flooding especially during high tides of coastal areas of southwestern Viti Levu [Coral Coast to Pacific Harbour], southern coast of Mamanuca group, Kadavu, Beqa and Vatulele.

Outlook for Saturday:

Rain easing to showers over Yasawa and Mamanuca group, western half of Viti Levu. Elsewhere, occasional showers and afternoon and evening thunderstorms and heavy falls expected.
