A wedding trip to Bua ended in tragedy this morning when three men lost their lives in a road accident along the Lomaloma highway in Vanua Levu.

Police say the driver of the truck, a 42-year-old man, allegedly failed to negotiate the notorious Lomaloma S-bend, sending the vehicle off the road and into a drain.

The accident claimed the life of the driver and two other passengers, aged 57 and 35.

Fourteen others were on board. Six were treated and discharged while another six remain admitted at Labasa Hospital.

Minister for Lands Filimoni Vosarogo, who came across the crash site while travelling through Lomaloma Village, revealed on Facebook that the deceased were his own kinsmen from Buca Bay.

“This tragedy has struck very close to home and has brought before me the painful realities of how quickly life can be taken away,” he wrote, extending condolences and prayers to the grieving families.

Mr Vosarogo urged drivers to take extra care on the roads.

Police investigations are continuing, and the Fiji Police Force has once again reminded motorists to drive safely to prevent further loss of life.
