Jason Whippy prefers to work behind the scenes, keeping a low profile even though he has earned many praises by youths for his work.

While accolades are obviously a bonus that’s the least the assistant youth officer in Savusavu, looking after Cakaudrove Province would ever want.

Mr Whippy’s work entails visiting villages and isolated communities of Tunuloa district, in a bid to encourage youths in these villages to set up their youth clubs.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Youth and Sports highlighted a Facebook post by Namakita Youth Club, reflecting member’s gratitude towards Mr Whippy for his contribution to the youth of Tunuloa.

Personal Sacrifice

Having to look after 139 villages in Cakaudrove, he ensures that youth engagement is at the forefront of his mission.

There are many obstacles he is confronted with as the lone assistant youth officer. Sometimes he has to sleep in remote villages after youth session engagement since there is no transportation.

“The bus fare and all other expenses come from my pocket,” Mr Whippy said.

“I see this as a way the ministry can increase visibility, but by making the minimal sacrifice to benefit the youths of the province goes a long way.”
