Palm Sunday: A reminder of the battle we all fought against COVID.

Christians celebrated Palm Sunday yesterday to mark the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem a week before his resurrection.

The annual event signifies triumph and peace.

Churches around Fiji were jampacked with parents and children in their white attires holding fresh palm leaves and showing their love for the event.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and his family celebrated the day with children of Saioni Vou Methodist Church.

Labasa Miracle Centre Sunday School Coordinator, Meri Raramasi said Palm Sunday this year was totally different.

She said it was a year of victory as we fought and won the battle against the deadly pandemic.

“Happy faces, joyful singing and children dressed in white without any restrictions was a brief indication of how far we came in managing COVID infected cases in Fiji,” she said.

She said people had the freedom to dance, move around in church and celebrate the auspicious occasion.

“It’s a blessed Sunday for all children as well because schools open tomorrow (today) and this spiritual source will help in their educational growth and wellbeing during the year.”
