Why Vice Chancellor Ganesh Chand's Contract Temporarily Suspended?

The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) has temporarily suspended the contract of its Vice Chancellor (VC) Ganesh Chand.
This was confirmed by the chair of the SINU council Culwick Togamana to the Fiji Sun yesterday.
Mr Togamana said due to travel restrictions in place in countries with known cases of the COVID-19 Delta variant, Fiji included, Mr Chand was unable to travel to the Solomon Islands.

“In this regard, SINU Council in consultation with Dr Chand made the decision to suspend his contract and it will be activated when he returns to the Solomon Islands,” he said.
“Dr Ganesh Chand is still the Vice Chancellor of the Solomon Islands National University.
“And of course, a period of suspension will be added from when Dr Chand resumes duty on his return.”
When contacted on Wednesday, Dr Ganesh Chand referred all queries to Mr Togamana.
In an article by the Solomon Star on Monday, it reported that the Solomon Islands Minister for Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD) Lanelle Tanangada told parliament that the contract period of Dr Chand is three years commencing from the month of March 2019 to 04 March 2022.
The Solomon Islands parliament heard that due to issues related to his work permit, Dr Chand took an early leave to Fiji in October 2020 while issues regarding his work permit were addressed and granted,” she said.
