Why We Terminated Teacher Kishore Kumar: Rosy Akbar

The Minister of Education, Heritage and Arts Rosy Akbar yesterday explained why the ministry terminated Suva school Ratu Sukuna Memorial School Computer Science teacher, Kishore Kumar.

Ms Akbar reminded all ministry employees that the Civil Servants Code of Conduct must at all times be upheld and preserved in a manner that promoted the integrity, impartiality and effectiveness of the Ministry and maintains the public confidence and trust.

The Ministry of Education will neither condone nor tolerate any breach of the Civil Servants Code of Conduct.

The ministry employees engaging in activities that bring disrepute to the nobility of the teaching profession, whether during official working hours or outside of official working hours will face disciplinary action.

The ministry has terminated Kishore Kumar, Computer Science Teacher at Ratu Sukuna Memorial School for posting derogatory comments on social media against Member of Parliament Lenora Qereqeretabua.

Ministry employees found guilty of harassment, victimisation or discrimination as stipulated by section 26(3) of the Constitution, will face termination, Ms Akbar warns.

Ms Akbar emphasises that acts of insubordination are grounds for immediate disciplinary action and termination.

Shortly after his termination was made public, Mr Kumar on his Facebook Kishore Kumar Publication, claimed that he was used by a Government MP to leak a video of MP Lenora Qereqeretabua on his social media page offering him $75,000.

He also stated that he could not publish the name of the MP.

“As of today, I officially bow out from civil service according to the decision of the government and with a threat that if I ever open my mouth to disclose the name of the Fijian of Indian origin MP, the MP with his people will kill me.”
