A 43-year-old woman has been charged for allegedly assaulting her daughter. She is scheduled to appear in court today.

This marks the second known case this year of alleged child abuse resulting in the victims sustaining injuries.

Police has cautioned parents and guardians to exercise due care in fulfilling their roles and responsibilities as primary carers for their children.

The Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, said all reports and investigations of child abuse and victimisation would be prioritised.

He emphasised the importance of ensuring that those responsible were brought to justice. Mr Chew said child abuse was a community issue, and everyone shared the responsibility in addressing it.

“Corporal punishment is illegal and constitutes a crime; police will take strict action against individuals involved in ill-treatment, abuse, or any activities potentially harmful to a child’s welfare, health, and well-being,” Mr Chew said.

Police assures that the welfare of children is paramount and warn parents and guardians to always act in their children’s best interests.
