The civil service may have to contend with a possible pay cut amid mounting pressure on the Government to reduce its national debt level.

And the agriculture sector - especially the Fiji Sugar Corporation Limited- will have to curb their dependency on the Government.

The recommendations from The World Bank were presented yesterday amid concerns that Fiji's debt level was likely to threaten the country's ongoing economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and sustainable economic development.

The bank's Fiji Public Expenditure Report 2023 suggests that reforms be carried out on both Government revenues and expenditures if it was to bring the debt level down to 50 per cent.
