World Bank Support Will Boost Health Sector

Over the years, the World Bank has rallied its support in assisting the Government of Fiji boost its health sector. Yesterday, a delegation from World Bank and Government toured around the Raiwaqa Health Centre and the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva.
The two locations were part of Fiji’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Project.
In the wake of the COVID-19 emergency in 2020, the World Bank approved funding of approximately $16million to further support the Government of Fiji in strengthening its health systems.

The tour is to enable a continued front of assistance for both stakeholders.
Accompanied by Acting Minister of Health and Medical Services Filimone Vosarogo, the team was briefed of the vicinity and future plans of collaborations.
Mr Vosarogo said Fiji needed a responsive and resilient health system to help prevent frequent outbreaks of non-communicable diseases and assist people.
“Fiji’s greatest asset is its people. Building human capital is essential to achieve this economic growth,” Mr Vosarogo said.
The assistance from World Bank has yet again given a positive boost for better health services.
“It strengthens structure investments such as the construction of medical records space, finance to conduct projects, allowing Fiji to do stock counts on essential medicines and weather emergencies as well as strategic investments.”
