Worst Diwali Without My Dad, Says 12-year-Old

The Year 7 student of Labasa Sangam Primary School said he would make sure that he studied hard so he could look after his two younger sisters and his mother.

While many were celebrating Diwali yesterday, a family in Labasa was mourning the loss of their father who was murdered three months ago.

Sanjesh Kumar, a 34-year-old taxi driver was found dead behind a farmhouse in Vunikawakawa, Labasa.

His son, 12-year-old Shahil Kumar said this Diwali “is the worst Diwali ever, without my dad”.

“We really miss him and we wish he was still alive.”

He added that their family was still trying to cope with the sad loss.

The Year 7 student of Labasa Sangam Primary School said he would make sure that he studied hard so he could look after his two younger sisters and his mother.

“We thank our family members for their support throughout these hard times we facing.”

He added that their mother, 33-year-old Renuka Devi had been taking good care of them from the time their Dad left them.

The family now lived with family members in Wailevu, Labasa.
