Bulou Boteiova, 19, will advocate for the rights of single parents devoted to the upbringing of their children.

The Teci, Yasawa native, who shares material links to Marou Village in Yasawa, will use the 2023 Vodafone Sugar Festival to reflect on her upbringing.

Sponsored by Singh Rentals she was raised by a single mother after her father died at the age of 26 in 2008, when she was four years old.

“The theme is lending a helping hand to the needy, so I looked at this event as an opportunity to be the voice of those single parent children out there,” she said.

“Single parents, who are scared to point out their views on what they have to say about their struggles and circumstances as they go through, because I for one have experienced that kind of life.”

Given this opportunity she will use the platform at the Vodafone Sugar Festival to advocate for the welfare and upbringing of our children and youths who are the future of Fiji.

“I would like us to understand issues, think about our children’s needs, and come up with solutions,” she said.

Ms Boteiova is now pursuing a Degree in Education (Primary) at the Fiji National University in Lautoka.

“My career pathway was journalism, but opted for a degree in education primarily to gain more experience in being outspoken. Also, to increase my vocabulary and to be confident in speaking and pointing out my views relating to the views of the society,” she said.

The aspiring teacher thanked her classmates at FNU, her bure max-sisters at hostels, the lecturers, the hardworking sugar festival committee and her fellow queen contestants who are her main supporters.
