Year 9 Student Uses Talent To Earn Income

Helee Bhavsar believes that if you have God-given gift­ed talents and use them properly, life will become much better.

Helee’s talent is painting. Wheth­er it be painting something from a scenic memory, sketching people or something from her imagina­tion, this Year 9 student of Rishi­kul Sanatan College is using it earning more than she anticipated.

Last Sunday, she showcased her artwork at the Garden City Market Day in Suva.

How it started

When Helee was six years old, she saw her friend’s parents buy­ing colour pencils for her and she asked her parents to buy her the same, but her dad said no.

Yet despite that, on her birthday, he surprised her with a set of col­our pencils. She got excited and started drawing cartoon charac­ters.

“In my free time I watch YouTube videos on how to sketch people and acrylic painting lessons. When my father saw the cartoon characters that I drew he told me that I was good.

“In my free time I draw, I do not watch movies, but use this time to improve my skills.”

She credited her parents for their support and said she would not have reached where she is today without it.

“My biggest supporters are my parents, and I am grateful that they allow me to pursue my hob­by,” she said.

She started by selling her artwork to her mother’s clients who wanted her to draw their sketches.

“Once I started to upload it on In­stagram more people started to ask me to sketch them,” she said.

“I started to get orders and I did a lot of sketches and now I have a lot of followers who contact me on my Instagram account- Art Realistic and Facebook on Art_realistic.

“I went to Australia in 2020 and I told my dad that I needed some materials for my artwork. I told him that it was expensive and that when I sell my artwork, I would pay back the money.

“I was able to pay my dad back and was able to get more profit. I am saving so that I can purchase a car when I join Tertiary (insti­tution) with my own money. I am also saving for a world trip with my best friend and my family.”

She also said her goal is to be­come an interior designer and ar­chitect engineer after completing her tertiary education.
