Being given the opportunity to cover the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) with other foreign journalists will be the greatest opportunity for 25-year- old Nazrin Zulkafi.

Mr Zulkafli, a news reporter of the Sinar Harian Newspaper in Malaysia will cover what many see as an enormous congress of the world’s most populous country, China.

Mr Zulkafi who has had two years’ of experience in the journalism field is part of the China International Press Communication Centre (CIPCC) 2022 programme.

“This is my first experience to cover an election after I came into this field of journalism two years ago. This will be a sweetest memory that I will never forget since I have been here in China.”

“This is going to be a great and a very important experience for me.”

“I am very fortunate with this opportunity because it will enhance my knowledge and skills of covering general elections,” he added.

The 20th National Congress officially opened on October 12, on Monday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China.

About 2500 journalists from China and abroad have registered covering the Congress, including around 150 journalists from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and some 750 foreign journalists.

The official opening was officiated by China’s President Xi Jinping. The 20th party congress is expected to see him reappointed for a precedent-breaking third term.

Mr Xi currently holds the three most powerful positions in China - general secretary of the CCP, chairman of the country’s armed forces and president.
