The Ministry of Youth in part­nership with Savusavu Tour­ism Association has enabled 22 young people to secure attache positions at hotels in Vanua Levu.

The lot successfully completed two weeks of training in hospital­ity operations at Daku Resort in Savusavu. They graduated with a Certificate in Housekeeping, Food and Beverages.

Ministry of Youth and Sports di­visional manager North Walter Matalau said these youths would be doing three months of attachment as part of their assessment.

He told graduates that tourism was connecting with people from different cultures, learning about the history and customs of a desti­nation and creating unforgettable experiences for travellers.

“We normally sing for Fiji ever Fiji in our national anthem, so this is your opportunity to market Fiji.”

He told graduates that as trained tourism professionals they must remember the importance of integ­rity, empathy, and respect for the communities and environments they encounter.

Graduate, Joana Vakayadra of Na­bouwalu Village, Bua said she felt proud of herself holding a certifi­cate and given the opportunity to work in a hotel.

“I have a Certificate III and IV in Hospitality and Tourism from Fiji National University, but never had to chance to secure a job,” she said.

The 31-year-old mother is hopeful after attachment she will be able to apply for a job in the Vanua Levu tourism sector.
