In their efforts to promote healthier living, members of the Mokani Youth Club in Tailevu Province took the initiative to clean up their community health centre.

Club president, Salaseini Vueti, said the community worked together with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to keep the club members occupied.

She said the initiative had a greater impact on people who used the health centre, especially senior citizens and persons living with disabilities.

“These clean-up campaign events are not just important to assist our community, but to gain experience and credibility through our community service efforts,” Ms Vueti said.

Teamwork

“Participating together in a community service clean-up campaign allows us to enhance morale, improve team leadership and renew team spirit.”

The health centre serves the people in the district of Bau, Dravo, Raralevu, Kuku, Luvuluvu and nearby villages and settlements.

“We acknowledge the support shown by the club members and staff of the Mokani Health Centre during the clean-up campaign,” she added.

Through these volunteer activities, some youths have grown; one member of the youth club left for work in Australia last week.

“These opportunities were developed based on youth interests and they indirectly reduce and eliminate criminal activities by youth members.”

Mokani Health Centre senior medical officer, Dr Tomasi Raiula, thanked the club for assisting them in cleaning the facilities and hoped for a continuous partnership in enforcing a cleaner and safer environment for all.
