Police in Savusavu conducting searches on youths loitering along the Savusavu Town foreshore.
Any youth found loitering in any of the Northern towns will questioned and monitored says acting Divisional Police Commander (DPC) North, Superintendent of Police (SP), Eroni Soqosoqo.
“Unnecessary reasons would lead youths to be taken to their homes to avoid them getting involved in any criminal activities,” SP Soqosoqo said.
Recently, Savusavu police rounded up few youths from Vuniyasawa allegedly found loitering along the Savusavu town foreshore.

“These youths although gave genuine reasons were warned to stay away from illegal activities.”
SP Soqosoqo has urged members of the communities to proactively work towards sharing timely information to police on any suspicious movements.
He said the crime prevention communities were the best medium to raise issues affecting community safety.
SP Soqosoqo said the possibility of suspicious individuals engaging in criminal activities remain high.
Crimes like illicit drug peddling and trying to explore new areas or people to help with their criminal activities is one of the many reasons behind suspicious movements.
“If a crime is committed within a community, these are the kind of people, police will have investigated,” he said.
Emphasis also is made for village elders and community leaders to screen individuals before giving them permission to stay.
“The elder or leader should know any new face residing in their community and their purpose of visiting,” he reiterated.
SP Soqosoqo said they want to create a safe environment for residents and tourists who travel to towns like Savusavu and Labasa.
He added their team will continue to monitor and identify repeat offenders of unwanted loitering.
