Zara Cama-Dean, 17, has won the battle.
She scored the highest marks in her school, Swami Vivekananda College, Nadi, in the 2023 Fiji Year 13 Certificate Examination (FY13CE).
She scored 379 out of 400.

“It feels surreal. Part of my brain is still in shock since I had no idea that I scored the highest marks for my school. I am truly blessed and thankful for this achievement,” she said.
She said she worked hard to achieve the results.“The main challenges I faced in school were time management and stress where I had to balance my studies with my prefect duties and extra-curricular activities.
“God’s guidance gave me peace of mind as I pulled many all-nighters and battled against the challenges of being a Year 13 student.
“My family would step in with pep talks whenever I started to feel the pressure and worry about my grades. I will always be thankful to my teachers who helped me immensely by always making time during their free periods to answer queries regarding the curriculum.”
Her mother Lisa Cama was proud that throughout high school her daughter had always strived to do her best while always maintaining a humble and conscientious attitude.
Zara plans to become a pilot in the future.
