Cabinet backs 20% pay cut, says PM

If passed, the pay cut would apply to all MPs – Government and Opposition members of Parliament.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed the proposed 20 per cent pay cut for Members of Parliament will be tabled at the April parliamentary sitting, which runs from April 27 to May 1.

Mr Rabuka said his Cabinet ministers were on board with the proposal.

"In the briefing, it will come as a Cabinet paper and then to Parliament," he said.

The pay cut requires parliamentary approval before it can take effect.

If passed, the pay cut would apply to all MPs – Government and Opposition members of Parliament.
