Campaigning for the next general election is premature and the Government remains focused on delivering services to the people, Minister for Rural and Maritime Development Mosese Bulitavu told Parliament.

Responding to comments from Opposition MP Premila Kumar, Mr Bulitavu said the Government’s priority was continuing its work rather than engaging in early political campaigning.

“The campaign is too far away. It is time for the Government to continue delivering the work that needs to be delivered, and people are thanking the Government on the service delivery that is coming to them on time.”

He said communities across the country had expressed support for the developments being implemented by Government.

“We are moving around the country - the Northern Division, Western Division and even in the Eastern Division, the support on the ground, supporting the Government, has been overwhelming, Sir.”

Mr Bulitavu said rural and maritime communities were seeing real benefits from projects implemented by Government ministries.

“They are really happy with the developments that the Government is bringing to them - access roads, farm roads, solar freezers, et cetera, have helped our rural and maritime communities.”

During a recent visit to Gau, he said villagers shared their appreciation for the work being carried out.

“Last week, I was in Gau and they told me to relay their message to the honourable Prime Minister, that this Government should run for another three terms.”

Mr Bulitavu said people were more concerned with tangible developments rather than online criticism.

“They do not follow all the things that are coming out on social media posted by keyboard warriors.”

He said government assistance across sectors was making a visible difference in communities.

“The assistance by the Ministry of Agriculture and all other ministries, boreholes by the Ministry of Lands that are the real impacts that people are feeling on the ground.”

Mr Bulitavu also addressed the formation of the People’s First Party led by the Opposition Leader.

“Now, we have a registered political party, which is the People's First Party. It will be led by the honourable Leader of the Opposition.”

He also acknowledged the Opposition’s support for the constitutional review process.

“I thank the honourable Leader of the Opposition this morning who also acknowledged the process of the constitutional review.”

Mr Bulitavu reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to delivering development to rural and maritime communities.

“We will continue to implement inclusive policies, strengthen community resilience, support sustained economic participation, and advocate for rural and maritime priorities to be integral elements of national development.”

He said the Government remained committed to ensuring development reached all communities across Fiji.

“We reaffirm our commitment to leave no Fijian behind - from the highlands to the coastlines, from rural villages and settlements to our outer islands.”
