Draft Constitution Amendment Bill ready for Parliament: PM

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed that a draft amendment bill to the 2013 Constitution has been completed and will soon be tabled in Parliament.
“The bill is already drafted. We will take it to Cabinet for approval and then we will take it to Parliament to allow the Secretary of Parliament time to also look into it,” Mr Rabuka said in Nadi yesterday.
He announced that a Constitution Review Committee will be established to examine the document and recommend necessary changes. Parliamentary committees will also be given the opportunity to contribute ideas on reforms to the law.

Mr Rabuka expressed confidence in securing the required support for the amendment.
“I am confident that the two-thirds requirement is achievable. I know I have the numbers and I know that those who have joined us are also supporting this move,” he said.
The Prime Minister stressed that the initiative is about honouring commitments made to Fijians.
