Prominent Nadi lawyer Dorsami Naidu has officially joined the Unity Fiji political party, abandoning earlier plans to form a separate political entity.
Earlier this year, Mr Naidu had proposed a new political party, the Fijian Democratic Party.
However, he said his decision to join Unity Fiji stems from a fundamental belief that Fiji’s future must be built on unity rather than further division.

“Upon deep reflection, I have decided that creating another political party would only serve to further splinter the voices and efforts of our people,” Mr Naidu said.
“My ultimate goal is to see our people united, working together for the betterment of our nation. By joining Unity Fiji, I can contribute to a party whose very name and ethos reflect this crucial vision.”
As a lifelong legal practitioner, Mr Naidu brings a strong commitment to upholding law and order and protecting the Constitution.
He emphasised that any necessary reforms must occur through democratic processes, with transparency, and in a way that considers the voices of all citizens—not just a vocal minority.
He also stressed the importance of keeping religion and politics separate in governance.
Mr Naidu outlined his and Unity Fiji’s immediate focus areas:
- National unity: Implementing policies that genuinely unite all communities in Fiji.
- Addressing rising crime and drugs: Tackling the escalating crime rate, including the alarming rise in methamphetamine use, which has contributed to high HIV incidence. This requires a comprehensive national response.
- Economic stability and job creation: Creating sustainable local jobs, providing competitive wages for skilled workers, and curbing the brain drain of Fijians seeking opportunities overseas. Potential growth areas include agriculture, marine, and forestry industries.
- Accessible healthcare: Reforming the healthcare system to ensure it is accessible to every Fijian, ending the need for public fundraising for essential overseas medical treatment.
- Basic services for all: Guaranteeing essential services such as clean water and housing for all citizens, alongside other critical infrastructure improvements.
“Unity Fiji is committed to ridding corruption and nepotism at all levels of government. We must also urgently address the challenges faced by young people and the lack of confidence they feel in their future here at home,” Mr Naidu said.
“I believe that under the banner of Unity Fiji, we can channel our combined energy toward addressing these pressing national issues with the focus and resolve they demand.”
