The People’s Alliance Party says attempts to damage the party ahead of the 2026 general election will not succeed, following the leak of a list of people who expressed interest in contesting under the party banner.

Party general secretary Sila Balawa said the party is investigating how the list was released online, describing the incident as an unnecessary action that may have been carried out by a small group with personal agendas.

Mr Balawa said despite the leak, the party remains strong and united, with members working together to prepare for the upcoming election.

“We do not understand what anyone stands to gain by doing something they think will damage or sabotage the party. These actions are futile because the party is moving forward strongly,” he said.

He added that the leaked names represent only a portion of the full list of applicants, which shows the large number of people across the country interested in contesting under the People’s Alliance banner.

Mr Balawa said the candidate selection process is still ongoing, and all applications will be processed according to the party’s constitution and consultation process with regional divisions.

He stressed that the leak will not affect the selection process, and only 55 candidates will eventually be chosen to contest the next general election.
