Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says the motion to reduce all Members of Parliament (MPs) salaries by 20 per cent will be voted on by Friday this week.

Speaking to this masthead yesterday, Mr Rabuka confirmed the motion was going in this week but could not pinpoint the exact day.

"If the bill has already been presented, it will be tomorrow (today). But if it is presented tomorrow (today), it will be on Friday. Two days," he said.

Acting Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga also confirmed the motion would be moved this week by the Prime Minister.

The proposed 20 per cent pay cut for all MPs was announced by Mr Rabuka as part of the Government's response to the ongoing global fuel supply crisis affecting Fiji.

The move is aimed at showing shared sacrifice by elected leaders during a period of rising costs for ordinary Fijians.

The Opposition is yet to comment, however this masthead understands they are still waiting to see the motion before taking a position.
