New police maritime bases planned to strengthen security
The Ministry of Policing is seeking support for Police Maritime Forward Base facilities in Lakeba, Savusavu, Denarau and Levuka.

Fiji is seeking international support to establish four new Police Maritime Forward Bases to strengthen enforcement against drug trafficking and maritime crime.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Policing, Acting Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga told Parliament the Government was looking to establish bases in Lakeba, Savusavu, Denarau and Levuka.
“The Ministry of Policing and Communications is also seeking support from international partners to establish Police Maritime Forward Base facilities in Lakeba, Savusavu, Denarau and Levuka.”

He said support was also being sought to acquire four police patrol vessels to operate from the new bases.
“Support is also being sought for the acquisition of four police patrol vessels, one for each of these bases.”
Mr Turaga said the new capability would strengthen national security and improve responses to maritime incidents.
“This capability will enable faster police responses to maritime incidents, strengthen enforcement against trafficking routes and support unified multi-agency outreach to maritime communities.”
